Happy November! With Halloween/October behind us, it’s time to officially jump into Holiday Season 2022. We can’t wait for you to see everything we have selected to bring into the Shop for the most magical time of the year. By now, you know we pride ourselves on the fact that we have seen and touched everything that comes into the shop. Keep reading to see what our top picks are for this season.
Last month, Mom and I made our annual pilgrimage south for the Fall High Point Furniture Market. This marks our 5th year of doing it together. This year certainly did not disappoint, with inspiration in practically every showroom. I’ve written up a whole recap of what we saw that was particularly noteworthy coupled with some pictures of our favorite things.
Last weekend was Chestertown’s Downrigging Weekend put on by Sultana Education Foundation. Sultana does an incredible job with this event and it is wonderful to see so many people visit and appreciate all of the beauty and charm our little town has to offer. For those of you who haven’t ever had the chance to visit Chestertown, mark your calendars for our Dickens of a Christmas weekend, which is December 2 & 3. This event started a few years back and it has been wonderful to watch it grow. There truly is something for all ages. You can check everything out here. The shop will be open Friday, December 2 until 8:00pm or so. Be sure to stop in and say “Hello!” We love seeing all of you out and about enjoying special events like these in our town.
For those of you who can’t make it to Chestertown, we do ship most of our home accessories. So if you see anything you like, here or on our social media, you can always email us and we can make sure you have your own little piece of the Village House in your home, wherever that may be.
As always, thank you so much for your support,

HIGH POINT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
Modern Traditional Design:
Hickory Chair was the show stopping showroom for us. Their interpretation of modern traditional design won both Mom and me over. This tight back sofa took our breath away as did this channeled back swivel chair which is pictured below it. For those of you who are looking to add unique, fresh, sophisticated pieces to your living areas, this is the company to use.

Pattern Play:
Pattern is back! Hate to sound redundant, but this has been a rule of ours since the very beginning. Every room needs patterns! And nobody seems to do it as well as Thibaut. We rely heavily on Thibaut for wallpaper, fabrics and tapes. And Thibaut has recently taken the plunge into manufacturing GREAT performance fabric. Below are some pictures of the company’s versatile style.

Art for Your Floor:
Rugs anchor a room’s space with size, color and pattern. And we love building a color palette from the ground up. Starting a room with a beautiful, unique rug does just that. Pictured below is a split screen shot of two complementary pairings we are bringing back to Maryland ❤️ I am also including pictures from the company’s website so that you all can see the difference between the product pictures versus what you see in actuality. This is why brick and mortar stores like us are never going to go out of style!

SHOP THE HOLIDAYS with VILLAGE HOUSE
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year! We pride ourselves on curating the finest selection of holiday decor out there. We scour markets to bring you the creme de la creme and we are slowly teasing out our holiday arrivals (pics below). Here is a sampling of what has already arrived or what is coming:
– Water Lanterns- the ever popular water lanterns are back at the shop with new styles (see below for the new “Greenhouse” version)
– Ornaments- We found a new account last market for ornaments. We know you will love them just as much as we do. Pictured below is just a taste of what’s coming, but we are pretty smitten with the Fox and Hummingbird ornaments.
-Glitter Trees- sold out in just two weeks last year. This year we have them in both silver and gold in three different sizes.
-Faux Greenery- And of course we will have the best faux greenery available for you. This year we have several selections of garland and sprays. Pictured below is our popular 32″ cedar spray

ELAINE’S CORNER- NEEDLEPOINT NEWS
Needlepoint pillow lovers, you all have been a patient bunch. This industry has been hard hit by worker shortages and extended shipping times. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Stock is returning! If you have ever called or emailed with questions about a needlepoint pillow, you have heard from owner and needlepoint expert, Elaine Bowman. Here is a sampling’s of Elaine’s (in stock!) selections (click on the pillows to be taken directly to the pages).

VILLAGE HOUSE HOME
A year ago (!) we launched his website to showcase our interior design work. You all responded in a BIG way, and we have been so busy that there has been very little time to do photo shoots or blog posts. Some things that we are excited to share with you are the following:
– Cost Increases/Lead Times- The GREAT news is that cost increases and inventory have started to even out. During COVID, many companies added oceanic surcharges to help temper the supply/demand issue and, thankfully, those have all pretty much been removed. Lead times are still long (most custom upholstery or hand crafted furniture are about 20 weeks), but we see that those times are trending down as well. Also, haven’t we all learned that good furniture is worth the wait!?
Speaking of good quality furniture, we are thrilled to announce that we are adding a new Outdoor Furniture to our bag of tricks- Summer Classics. Mom has worked with Summer Classics for years, but we are advancing our partnership and bringing items to our shop floor. This means we can not only bring you a great product for your outdoor living, but bring you the best pricing as well. We could not be more thrilled to take this relationship to the next level. For over 35+ years, Summer Classics has been providing clients with durable, luxury outdoor furniture. Here are some of our favorite pieces that we think will be right at home on the banks of the Chester or the Bay.
